Best Private Tours in Greece: Delphi, Meteora, and Beyond
Discover the best private tours in Greece with professional chauffeurs. Explore the ancient ruins of Delphi, the stunning monasteries of Meteora, and more.
Athens is the perfect base for day trips: within two to four hours by road you reach the sanctuary of Delphi, the rock monasteries of Meteora, the Venetian town of Nafplio and the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion. A private tour means your own vehicle and chauffeur, your own schedule, and stops wherever you want. Below are the tours our guests book most, with our starting prices per vehicle.
Cape Sounion — Temple of Poseidon (from €300)
The shortest and most popular trip. The road follows the Athenian Riviera past Glyfada and Vouliagmeni to the marble temple on the cliff, about 70 km from central Athens. Go in the late afternoon: the sunset over the Aegean from the temple is the classic end of the day. Allow around 4–5 hours in total.
Delphi — the ancient oracle (from €450)
Delphi sits on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, roughly 180 km and two and a half hours from Athens. The archaeological site and museum — the Temple of Apollo, the theatre, the stadium and the Charioteer of Delphi — need at least three hours. Many guests combine it with lunch in the mountain village of Arachova; we also offer a Levadia–Arachova–Delphi combo tour (from €550).
Meteora — monasteries on the rocks (from €800)
Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Thessaly, about four hours’ drive from Athens. Six monasteries are still active on top of the sandstone pillars. It is a long day, which is exactly where a comfortable minivan and a professional driver make the difference. Dress code for the monasteries: covered shoulders and knees, skirts for women.
Nafplio (from €480) and Mycenae (from €450)
Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece, is about two hours away in the Peloponnese: a harbour town with the Palamidi fortress and the Bourtzi castle in the bay. On the way you can stop at the Corinth Canal. Mycenae, the city of Agamemnon with the Lion Gate, is close by — our Mycenae–Nafplio combo tour (from €550) covers both in one day.
More ideas for longer days
- Ancient Olympia (from €750): the birthplace of the Olympic Games, a full-day trip to the western Peloponnese.
- Epidavros theatre (from €400): the best-preserved ancient theatre in Greece, famous for its acoustics.
- Meteora–Metsovo–Theopetra grand combo (from €1,200): the monasteries, a mountain village of Epirus and a prehistoric cave.
Why a private tour instead of a group bus
- You start when you want, from your hotel or cruise ship, and set the pace yourselves.
- The price is per vehicle, for up to 8 passengers, and it is fixed when you book.
- Your chauffeur speaks English and can adjust the route: an extra stop, a longer lunch, a detour to a beach.
- Mercedes minivans with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and water on board.
