Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (ATH) is about 33 km east of the city centre. Depending on traffic and the option you choose, the trip to Syntagma Square takes between 35 and 70 minutes. The main choices are the metro, the express bus, or a pre-booked private transfer. The options at a glance

Metro Line 3 — €9 per person. Runs from the airport station to Syntagma in about 40 minutes. Standard city tickets are not valid on the airport section; you need the dedicated airport ticket.
Express bus X95 — €5.50 per person. Runs 24 hours a day from the arrivals level to Syntagma. Expect around 60 minutes, more in rush hour.
Private transfer — from a minimum fare of €82 per vehicle. Pre-booked with a fixed price agreed before you fly; the driver waits for you inside the arrivals hall with a name sign, and a Mercedes minivan takes up to 8 passengers with luggage.

Metro: cheapest for solo travellers with light luggage

The metro is reliable and avoids traffic. It is a good choice if you travel alone or as a couple with cabin bags and your hotel is close to a station. The downsides: stairs and escalators with heavy suitcases, crowded carriages at peak times, and a walk from the station to the hotel. The airport line does not run through the night.

X95 bus: the only public option all night

The X95 is the budget choice for late arrivals because it runs around the clock. It stops at the arrivals level and ends at Syntagma. Space for large suitcases is limited and the bus can be full in summer, so plan for standing room and extra time.

Private transfer: best for families, groups and late arrivals
